Real World SEO Tips for Competitive Markets

You may find links to other in depth posts contained in the posts, but in this category the focus is short and sweet bullet points with a hit list of tactics to execute.

This way, we give you what you want (tips and tactics you can use) and we don’t spend all day “just talking about SEO”… You may have noticed the post frequency taking a slight hiatus as of late. This is due to increases and demand for SEO services, which means we have less time to contribute to blogging since our business has nearly doubled in the past few months. Without further ado, let’s kick this first post of the new SEO Tips category off in style.

The Preface

Search engine optimization (SEO) revolves around creating consistencies in a websites’ architecture, content, keywords, traffic and conversion.  Aside from tactics, the bottom line is straightforward and to the point.  In a nutshell, by pairing great offers with “someone looking for great offers” conversion occurs. do this enough with as many possible keywords, websites and offers and you can create a ranking juggernaut by design.

Approaching a market from the top-down (seeing each branch as an opportunity to garner additional market share) allows you to structure the conversation using keywords, landing pages and continuity to pair these two distinct polar opposites the supplier and the consumer (based on the cycles of supply and demand).

The Framework is Simple:

Conduct market research to uncover trends or increases in demand for industry-specific keywords. Then, you compile and cross-reference the data/analysis and apply action words or click triggers you can use to attract traffic and monetize multiple variations of a semantic cluster by using an array of keyword modifiers.

  1. Map out the number of ideal landing pages needed to create a viable cross-section of the market based on keyword clusters.
  2. Determine how many supporting pages of content are needed to increase your websites’ global term weights for the keywords in question.
  3. Apply a deep linking campaign (linking specifically to specific pages, with the preferred anchor text you want to rank for) for a 90 day period to provide an ample inbound link trajectory.

Timelines for Keyword Targets Depend On:

  • The websites previous SEO efforts
  • The age of the domain (new, aged an unoptimized, a year old, etc.?)
  • The volume of topical content dedicated to each keyword
  • If internal links are present, consistent or optimized
  • Are there enough external links and deep link percentages per keyword cluster?
  • The diversity of off page factors (directories, blogs, editorial mention, rss directories, articles, etc.)
  • The site architecture and CMS (is it a duplicate content nightmare or can it be easily modified?)
  • What is the websites crawl frequency from search engines (poor, fair, excellent?)
  • How much analysis time can be committed to monitor or implement fine-tuning based on discoveries?
  • The amount of persistence, dedication, consistency and focus the site needs (in house, micro managed, outsourced, etc.)

Just like anything in life, you get what you pay for and those who have more time, energy, passion or budgets have a tendency to prevail. So, before you challenge any website for any keyword, skim through the bullet points above to determine how ready you are when the competition strikes back.

Stay tuned for the next SEO Tip when we discuss modifications for content management systems to sculpt the ideal site architecture based on superior template construction. In the meantime, you can review our stellar series called SEO for Large Websites for an overview of the topic.
