With information flying around the web at breakneck speeds, Google has once again added a new layer of information retrieval and data aggregation with real-time search to the traditional search engine environment. To say that SEO just got more interesting is an understatement as social media climbs a peg higher on the totem pole of relevance as it pertains to search.
Many fear the implication of information overload of the misuse of information that is being aggregated by the Google toolbar and being logged in to G-mail and how this will impact personalization. But now, with the real-time search on the forefront (in reaction to Twitter and Bing getting cozy), is there any way for online properties to compete?
Based on the various types of users that frequent search engines, the only difference between a shopper, an information gatherer or someone foraging for data on a topic is the distinction in their emotional state.
With such a broad array of emotions that determine where we go and what we do, this type of “interruption marketing” is predicated on dangling morsels of data through enticing headlines can only lead to one thing – a long string of proliferated “search tangents”.
This is one giant step for social media; however, it may not be the best move for commerce… The tendency for people to get lost in cyberspace on tangential impulses is nothing new.
With the integration of personalized search pooling information from video, RSS feeds, news feeds and now real-time search, what are the implications are information overload and who benefits most from this additional stream of flavorful ads disguised under the self-serving agendas of social media?
Is this Google’s way to consolidate the twitter phenomenon by taking a vertical approach (acquire and consolidate) rather than divide and conquer? If anything, its one stop shop positioning will keep the loop intact as it truly occupies the ultimate authority with hub status at the crux of the web.
With Google Wave, Android, Chromium OS and now Real time search, what is left for the forward thinking online juggernaut to consume? All we can say is good thinking Lincoln, no better competitor to out position than yourself. With acquisitions on the rise and the introduction of revolutionary technologies like this, who can stand in their way for online dominance… Micro who?
